 Greatness Of Temple:

It is believed that Mother Ellai Pidari Amman is the combined power of Shiva and Shakti.  There is a small idol of Lord Shiva with Holy Ganga on His head under the presiding deity.  It is an added reputation to the temple that besides the presiding deity, Brahmma Durga, Vishnu Durga and Shiva Durga bless the devotees in this temple. A six day festival is grandly celebrated in the temple in Panguni-March-April.  All the days of Aadi month – July-August is a festival day in the temple.  Lime fruit is placed on the lap of Mother and offered as Prasad which women consume for child wish.  Those mentally ill walk through the fire pit for cure.  Those facing obstacles in concluding marriage proposals light ghee lamps in Mother’s shrine for nine Fridays continuously for a happy solution.  People also light Maa Vilakku for cure from vision and stomach problems.  Ellai Pidari Amman grants all boons to Her devotees

  Temple History:

The temple was built by a Chera King.  Many chieftains of the place had renovated the temple from time to time.  About 300 years ago, some devotees were returning to Kumarasami Patti from Ayodhya Pattinam after worshipping Lord Sri Rama.  They saw a huge snake on the way spreading its hood.  They ran in panic but fell at a place as something stuck there.  They managed to reach home.  The same night, Mother Amman appeared in the dream of an elderly man of the place and told him that she was under the place where people fell down and asked him to build a temple and conduct regular pujas, promising all prosperity to the people of the village.
People rushed to the spot next morning and found a beautiful Amman idol.  They built the temple at the same place, installed Her and named Ellai Pidari Amman.  Noted religious scholar Sri Tiru Muruga Kripananda Variar had visited the temple and worshipped mother.  Chera Kings and chieftains use to begin any work only after offering prayers to Mother Ellai Pidari Amman.
