  The temple is praised in the hymns of Saivite Saint Tirugnanasambandar.   Those used to hear the praise of Lord gracing in Tirupugalur would not listen to words that are not worthy of hearing.  They will listen only words of His praise.  It is their conclusion that anytime they fail to listen to His glory, they feel they are insane, says the Saint in his hymn.   This is the 75th temple on the southern banks of Cauvery sung in Thevaram hymns.  
     
 Festival:
     
  10 day Vaikasi Poornima-Brahmmotsavam in May-June with a special programme showing Lord Chandrasekhara granting darshan to Agni Bhagwan – God of Fire according to the history of the land (sthala purana), 10 day festival for Saivite saint Tirunavukkarasar in April-May commencing before Sadayam star day and monthly Pradosha days (13th day from New Moon or Full Moon days), Deepavali in October-November, Pongal almost falling on 14th January each year and Tamil and English New Year days are celebrated in the temples besides special puja performace days each month. The crowd is huge in the temple on such festival occasions.  
     
 Temple's Speciality:
     
  Lord Shiva graces in the temple as a Swayambumurthi. Sri Agni Bhagwan (God of Fire) in the temple appears with two faces, 7 hands, 7 flames, 4 horns and three feet.
