  Brahmmotsavam begins in the temple prior to Chaturthi day in Panguni Poornima day in March-April. This festival is celebrated as Pradyuma, son of Lord Krishna desired to have his birthday celebrated for a week. Presently, it is celebrated for 11 days. As in Tirupati, Vahan Seva is followed daily in this temple.

  The hill temple is open from6.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. It is believed that Devas from the celestial world are praying to Lord after midday. The foothill temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 4.00 p.n. to 8.00 p.m.

 General Information:
     
  It is said that Lord Sri Rama visited this hill as guided by Sri Anjaneya.  There is a shrine for Mother Mahalakshmi behind the temple.  There is an entrance to a cave outside Lord Narasimha shrine.  The cave way is 9 km long reaching the 25 feet long Ranganathar idol at the other end.  Due to safety reasons, this cave way is now closed.  There are evidences that Tapasvins and Buddhist monks were living in this cave in early times.
There are steps from Mangalagiri foot hill to reach the hill temple.  Considering the increase in devotee inflow, a road is constructed to a stretch of one km to facilitate vehicle travel to the hill.  At the top of the hill, is a temple known as Kanthalaya.  No idol is here.  Devotees light lamps here with their prayers.
The travel to the temple should begin from Vijayawada at 6.00 a.m.  Mangalagiri Panaka Narasimha temple is 10 km far from here.  The journey may continue at 8.00 a.m. from this place reaching Vedatri within 2 hours, where darshan is available till 12.00 a.m.
After lunch at Vedatri, the devotee should proceed to Mattapalli reaching at 4.00 p.m.  Accommodation facilities are available at Hoosoor at night.
Vadapalli is 80 km far from Hoosoor.  Darshan facilities should be pre-arranged contacting the priest there.  The watchman of the temple in a nearby house will help in the matter. Locals would help the devotee to go to the hill, if he/she wished.  The devotee can return to Vijayawada by about 6.00 p.m.

 Greatness Of Temple:
     
  The mouth of Lord Narasimha is broad and of brass.  Panaka is prepared in big pots.  The priest pours four or five Pots Panka on the mouth of Lord.  The sound of drinking is audible.  After pouring a certain quantity of Panaka, the sound stops indicating that Lord is satisfied.  The remaining Panaka is distributed to devotees as Prasad.  Sometimes, the Panaka (excess quantity) comes out of Narasimha’s mouth.  A fee of Rs. 45 is levied for this prayer commitment.  This is available in the temple.
Earlier, the hill was a volcano, it is said.  Though a large quantity of sugar, panaka drink and green coconut are spread over the temple premises, no pests can be seen flying on them.  It is said that this panaka drink with sugar, green coconut spilling would have helped softening the impact of the volcano, showing how great scientists our ancestors were.
During the Kruthayuga, the souls that enjoyed the bliss at paradise were awaiting their rebirth.  Saddened by the fact, the souls appealed to Indira to save them from the miseries of earthly life.  He said that anyone who goes to Mangalagiri and worship Lord Narasimha would return back to paradise.  The same rule applied to those in the Tretha Yuga too.  The place is praised as Anjanathri, Thottathri, Mukhthiyathri and Mangalagiri after the four yugas.
The tower before Lord Lakshmi Narasimha at the foot hill temple is 153 feet tall. This is a 11 tier tower with a base of 49 feet.  After completing the construction of the tower, it was found to be turning on a different direction.  Shocked engineers brought sculptors from Kancheepuram to check the mistake.  Tamilnadu sculptors suggested that a tank should be dug to set right the direction of the tower.  Doing so immediately, the engineers were astonished to see the tower in the right direction.  This was a great engineering suggestion and advice by the Tamilnadu sculptors to this temple in Andhra Pradesh.  There are also towers in the temple towards west, north, east and south directions.
The tower is opened on Vaikunda Ekadasi day in December-January.  Lord Lakshmi Narasimha idol was installed in the temple by Dharmaputra, the eldest of the Pandavas.  Lord is wearing a Salagrama stone garland made of 108 beads.  Lord always appears with glittering jewels as in Tirupati.  The conch – Dakshina Vruddha Sangu – donated by Thanjavur king Sarfoji is with the Lord.   It is also believed that this conch was used by Lord Krishna Himself.  The mandaps and the prakaras were built by Thimmaraju Devaraju.  The temple has a shrine for Mother Rajya Lakshmi.  It is also believed here that Sage Narada is in the temple in the form of a milk tree due to a curse by a queen.  Women worship here seeking child boon.
  
     
  Temple History:
     
 

A demon, Namuchi by name had a boon from Lord Brahmma that he could not be killed by any weapon wet or dry.  With the power of the boon, he began to harass the Devas and mankind.  They surrendered at the feet of Lord Narayana for protection.  Lord applied His discus in great fury.  The discus plunged into the sea, came out and fell on the foam of sea water, which is nether wet or dry.  Thus the discus also was neither wet or dry.  Sensing the danger ahead of him, the demon shrunk his body and hid himself in a cave to prevent the march of Lord’s weapon.  But the discus, taking a big form blocked air flow to the cave, caused suffocation ending the life of the demon by chopping off his head.  Yet the fury of Lord continued.  Devas begged Him to become normal.  Lord took nectar and became soft. 

 

Then Lord as Sri Narasimha stayed in the hills with His broad mouth.  During Dwapara Yuga He was fed with ghee to reduce His fury.  In the present Kali Yuga, He is offered the Panaka made of sugar and lime juice for the purpose.
