 Greatness Of Temple:

Lord Krishna’s Geethopadesa is beautifully depicted at the entrance of the temple.  Though Lord Navaneethakrishna appears small in size, the idol is very beautiful.  Devotees do Aalankaras to Lord with flours, butter and sandal paste for wedding and child boon.  They offer milk porridge – Paal Payasam – nivedhana.
There now exists only the bottom part of an ancient jack tree in the temple on the left side of the entrance near the Bali Peeta.  It is said that the king was hiding in a hole of this jack tree.  As it saved the life of the king, it is praised as Ammachi Maram.  Maram in Tamil and Mayalayam means tree.  It is the belief that praying to this tree ensures longevity.  The puja is performed with butter in the hands of Lord Krishna.
The king was recruiting people for his army.  The applicant would be called to the temple and asked to lift a stone there.  He will be selected if he succeeds in the test.  The stone still exists in the temple.  Nobody is able to lift it till today.

  Temple History:

From his Padnabhapuram palace, King Marthanda Varma was on his way to Thiruvananthapuram with his family.  His enemies conspired to eliminate him on the way.  Knowing the plan, the king changed the route by Neyattrangarai.  The boatmen there took the king and his family to the other side of the river.  However, the enemies too followed the royal family.  The shepherds in the place, showed a hole in the jack tree to the king to hide himself.  The king wanted to reward the boys who saved his life but could not find any one.  He realized that Lord Krishna only saved his life.  He built the temple and named the Lord Navaneetha Krishna.
