Festival: |

|
|
|
|
This is a temple of festivals throughout the year. Beside daily pujas with abisheks and aradhanas, Masi Maha Shivrathri in February-March, Thai Poosam in January-February, Vaikasi Visakam in May-June, monthly pradoshas and full moon day are celebrated very devotionally in the temple. The Chithirai – April-May festival is very significant with a huge crowd pouring in from surrounding villages. With some entertainment programmes too, the festival would echo in the forest areas too. On the last of Panguni – March-April – Ayyanar leaves this place to meet his brother Solaimalai Ayyanar in the Theni Bunglow medu. People carry milk pots, Kavadis etc and the festive activities would be in its peak. Veerappa Ayyanar would be back to his place after meeting his brother by about 11.00 p.m. at night. Final pujas take place on 3rd day of Chithirai – April-May. As Ayyanar appeared here on the first day of Chithirai – approximately on 14th April – the festivals begin from this day. |

There is a Lord Vishnu temple outside his temple. Deities as Sastha, Karuppasami, Kannimar,
Vinayaka, Muruga and Azhagar Perumal have their shrines here. Panasal
River flows close to
Veerappa Ayyanar temple. As the river
originates from a hill, the water pure and sweet. The beauty of nature with tall trees and
plants around the place, make the environment very pleasant. Mantras prescribed to worship Swami Veerappa Ayyanar: Ohm Shivaya Namah Ohm Shambave Namah Ohm Maheshwaraya Namah (to be chanted thrice offering Deeparadhana. Prostrate before the deity. Kaveri Tungabadracha, Krishnaveni cha Gowthami, Bhagirathi Vishyadham Pancha Ganga Prakeerthidham, Kala shodhakena, poojathravyani Samprokshya. Chanting the above lines, the theertha (water) should be sprinkled on the betel leaves and on the head of the devotee. The Allinagaram village committee is managing the temple. Soothsayers are there in the temple complex. The soothsayer not simply predicts future but also offer suggestion to come over problems. There is also a belief among the people here that after darshan in the temple, they should directly go to their homes only without entering into houses of others on the way, as the benefit of worship would be lost to them.

Realizing their wishes, devotees offer things needed for the maintenance of the temple. They offer Jasmine and roses very dear to Ayyanar for the pujas. Sugar pudding (Sakarai Pongal) is the preferred nivedhana. Ayyanar does not wish sacrifice of goats etc. as He is the protector of these beings too. The sacrifice of animals is banned here. Yet, the practice exists in the nearby village and the meat is used in the Annadhanams. | | |

Greatness Of Temple: | |
|
|
|
|
Sri Veerappa Ayyanar is a swayambu which is growing in
size. This is evident from the fact that
the gold crown and the gold belt made years ago are not fitting now. Traders in Theni choose this temple for
opening their annual new account pujas.
People throng this temple not only for worship but also as a tourist
spot with their friends and relatives.
The idols are made of stones as people believe that stone has a
better magnetic power than metals.
Stones contain air, fire, water and also the earth. Panchaboodhas – five powers – inherent in
stone, hence, it is chosen for making idols, say devotees here.
There is also a darga nearby.
People of this place worship here too on Fridays and other important
days offering agarbathi (incense sticks) worship. The place is an example for promoting
communal harmony.

Temple History: | |
|
|
|
|
A miracle happened about 300 years ago. People were grazing their cattle in the
western ghat regions then. Despite good
grazing, the cows did not give any milk to the owners. They began to take the milk at the very place
whey they were grazing. One day, while
returning home, they fell down on the way with the bowls and heard sounds of
someone drinking the milk.
People of the village gathered at the spot where they fell on
first day of Chithirai (about April 14).
One man got possessed and said “I am Veerappa Ayyanar hiding here to
protect all of you, bring me out” according to a hearsay story. The swayambu appeared on this day. People believe that Veerappa Ayyanar is patrolling
in this are during he nights as thry hear the sounds of horse steps. Ayyanar in the sanctum sanctorum of the
temple is in Linga form. People desirous
to see Ayyanar on a horse, made one with long moustache and placed it before
the temple. As Akasha Ganga is good for
abishek to Swayambu, the temple has no roof above Ayyanar. The tradition still continues.
