It was a vacant site sixty years ago.  Poor people were staying here. Mother Devi appeared in the dream of one staying there and said that She would come there as a snake and people should install Her idol there.  Sooner an entrance structure was put.  While the pujas were on, a snake would appear there at about 12.00 a.m.  As many deers (Maan in Tamil) were wandering there in the past, the place was named Maan Kadu.  The temple was built in the year 1952.
