 Greatness Of Temple:

This temple came into being during the British rule.  Lord Vinayaka chose this place for some reason-Karanam.  Hence, He is named Karana Vinayaka.

The majority of the residents of the place were farmers by occupation then.  They placed Nandhi also with Vinayaka for the welfare of their cattle and their own welfare.  Nandhi is in the sanctum sanctorum itself with Lord Vinayaka.

  Temple History:

People from a nearby village desired to build a temple for Lord Vinayaka.  They were bringing the idol in a bullock cart.  At some point, the axle of the cart was broken.  They placed the idol on the ground and repaired the cart.  When they lifted the idol they could not despite all their collective effort.  Hence, they built the temple there and installed the Lord. A British officer asked the villagers to remove the temple from there to lay a road.  They refused.  He made arrangements to demolish the temple with his official power.  The officer had a dream that night that a large number of elephants were chasing him.  Understanding the power of Lord Vinayaka, the officer laid the road with a curve without damaging the temple.  It is noteworthy that the road has a curve near the temple.
