 Greatness Of Temple:

Literatures in Tamil praising the glory of Lord Muruga’s six faces tell us the mercy of Lord towards His devotees, 1) freedom from ignorance replaced by true and pure wisdom, 2) granting boons prayed for, 3) ensures stamina and motivation, 4) washing out secret dirt in mind and create positive self-determination (Vairagya), 5) protecting the wise from the wicked and 6) make all beings happy.
That Lord Muruga performs the three functions of creation, protection and destruction is represented by the weapons He is holding in His 12 hands.  The physical structure of every being contains five elements of water, space, fire, air and earth and the inner soul.  Lord Muruga is the gift of Lord Shiva to the world from the six sparks He produced from His forehead eye.  The sparks are the soul in Him.  He too is the product of the above five powers when He takes a human form.
The fourth Padai Veedu – army camp – of Lord Muruga is Swamimalai near Kumbakonam.  It is at this holy land, He played Guru role teaching His own father the meaning of the basic Mantra word OHM.  Good education is an indispensable wealth.  Lord Muruga offers this wealth to His devotees.
Everything in the temple is crystal white including the Rajagopuram emphasizing the need of purity of soul and mind.  Lord Vinayaka has His own importance as the elder brother of younger Muruga.  The Avatar of Lord Muruga is depicted aesthetically in a water tank in the temple.  Ashtathik Balakas (securities at the eight directions) are around the tank.
There is also a Bali Peeta where devotees sacrifice all the vices in them as lust, anger, hatred etc. and enter the shrine as pure souls.  Passing the flag post and the peacock vahan, the devotee reaches the peak of bliss to see the Lord in Sandal Cover appearing majestically and mercifully.  The handsomeness of Lord is beyond the power of words to describe.  In the place of peacock, elephant occupies the status as in Swamimalai.
Lord Muruga graces the devotees with His consorts Valli and Deivanai as in Tiruthani, as Senthil Andavan with His Vel weapon that destroyed demon Sura in Tiruchendur and in the respective roles He played in Palani for a mango fruit, His wedding with Deivanai in Tiruparankundram and in other places.  To put it precisely, the temple is an epic speaking volumes of the glory of the Lord.  The temple is a confluence of the celebrated temples of Lord Muruga.   There is a shrine of Lord Kasi Viswanatha accompanied by Mother Visalakshi blessing the devotees.  The 63 celebrated Nayanmars adore the temple.  The Navagrahas are made in a single stone
