 Temple's Speciality:
     
  This is a big temple for Lord Shiva with two Swayambu Lingas. The miracle of a mud pot with sacred ashes coming out of a spring in the temple once in 12 years is taking place even today. This is the only Shiva temple in the region with tallest lamp post – Deepastamba.

 Greatness Of Temple:
     
 

Once Lord Shiva appeared here with an unbaked mud vessel seeking alms. Hence, the Lord is known as Pachottu Avudayar. (Pachottu – unbaked mud vessel). According to Epigraphy, the name of the Lord is found as Pachottu Aludayar. Goddess is known as Pachainayaki-Periyanayaki.

Miracle: There is a spring behind the temple created by Lord Shiva by scratching the ground with His nail. The Nigapushkarani as it is called is revered equal to Ganga. A pot filled with sacred ashes comes out from the spring once in 12 years even today.

Till 50 years ago, the pot was big in size, but of late the size has shrunk. The sacred ash has a high medicinal value curing even prolonged diseases if consumed a little or applied on the body, it is believed.

As Mother Parvathi performed penance here, the place is also known as Parvathipuram. The Lamp Post in the tallest of Shiva temples in this region. After praying at the flag post (dwajasthamba) when we advance into the temple, there is another Swayambu Shivalinga known as Arudra Kapaleeswararar. This is a temple known for two Swayambulingas.

There also shrines for Raghupathi Narayanaperumal flanked by His Consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, Garuda and Anjaneya.

While Mother Parvathi was performing penance here, Lord Shiva appeared before Her with an unbaked mud vessel seeking food. Mother Parvathi, committed to the dharma of helping those in need, offered food to the Lord in the vessel. Pleased Shiva took Her along with Him.

The miracle of the pot with sacred ashes coming of the spring once in 12 years takes place even now. The temple has two Swayambulingas.
