Festival: |

The most important festival celebrated in the temple is the one on the fourth Saturday of Purattasi month (September-October). The other significance is that the temple of Karivaradaraja Perumal and Kasi Viswanathar temple exist in a vast complex together. Both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu come in procession together on this festival day.
Before the procession comes to a close, Sri Anjaneya comes from Thudupathi to Sriranga Goundenpalayam. At night special pujas and abhisheks are performed to Sri Anjaneya at the Vana Venkatesa Perumal temple. Till this function is over, people in Sriranga Goundenpalayam would be observing fast and would break it at night after Anjaneya Puja is over.
Sri Anjaneya would leave Sriranga Goundenpalayam the next morning. Till then both Lord Shiva and Lord Perumal would be waiting for him at the entrance of the temple. Only after the arrival of Sri Anjaneya, all the Gods would enter the temple together. This tradition is being observed for the past 400 years.
Depending on the Navarathri festival days, sometimes this festival would be celebrated in advance on the third Saturday also. People say that the weight of the palanquin would not at all be felt by the bearers during the 3 km journey between Thudupathi and Sriranga Goundenpalayam. They say it would appear as if the God is flying. |
