| It is said that in those days there were a number of fat people (Thadiyar in Tamil) in the place, hence the place came to be known as Thadiyan Malai which later changed as Thidian Malai. According to other story, a huge number of devotees flocked the place suddenly (Dhideer in Tamil) on hearing of the installation of the Kasi Shiva Linga here. As this happened suddenly (Dhideer) the place came to be called as Dhideer Malai and now as Thidian Malai. | |
