The traditional Prasad offered in Shakti temples as turmeric and kumkum are not offered in the temple, but the ashes from the oven used for cooking the nivedhana is offered. It is believed that this ash contains medicinal properties. Amaravathi River turns here as a garland offered to Amman. Amman was called ‘Nalla Thai – Good Mother - in the past. As She is installed near the river, She was also known as Arumkarai Amman – Amman on the banks of the river- and in the days followed this came to stay. | |
