During the Pallava period, two temples were constructed on the slope of this hill – Shiva and Vishnu temples - to foster harmony among the two philosophies. These are cave temples with a single compound wall. The Giri Valam cannot be taken for Lord Satygiriswara temple alone. The route covers both temples. It is also noteworthy that the sanctum sanctorum is a cave shrine. | |
